Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a Russian politician and former intelligence officer who served as the 2nd and is the current 4th President of Russia. A former KGB officer, he rose through local and federal political ranks before becoming acting president after Boris Yeltsin’s resignation in 1999. His rule has been marked by centralized authority, control over media, curbs on political opposition, and military actions in Chechnya, Georgia, Ukraine, and Syria. Domestically, he strengthened the role of the Kremlin, reduced oligarch influence, and oversaw economic recovery in the early 2000s, though later years drew criticism over human rights and electoral fairness.
